I used to get the eggs in the morning
From the chicken coop;
I remember Matilda
and on my feet she'd swoop.

She liked her food and my t-time job
Was taking down their gruel;
Potato peelings and bits and bobs
That was their only fuel.

The eggs were Delish!or so I found
Every morning there was more;
It never did cease to amaze me
There was always three or four.

I think it was between four and five
The telly was on for an hour;
It was a new invention and
Our neighbours all watched ours.

Crowded round the sitting room
All excited and waiting to see;
What was going to be on
Jumping up and down with glee.

If only we'd known just what it would change
The playing in the park soon got lost;
The fresh air and running around all day
Old fashioned games all got tossed.

I learnt to swim at long last
I'd watched for a long long time;
I didn't go all that fast
But I got there,success was mine.

Stuff memories are made of
Are unusual unplanned events;
When things don't go according to plan
Haywire and laughing putting up tents.

Having some beers caused mayhem that day
We laughed and entertained too;
It seemed that everyone round us
Was laughing at me and you.

The first fish I caught,I was very proud
I had to throw it back of course;
It's quite a feat for a six year old
Later I shouted myself hoarse.

Grandma, Grandad, guess what I did
It was silver and shiny and wriggling about;
I could see it near the edge of the lake
I will always remember my very first trout!

Down behind the bike sheds
Where the Firemen used to be;
I had one I fancied
That's just between you and me.

I tried to be all grown up
I'd started to smoke you see;
Lit up a fag to try and look cool
Till the teacher ended that spree.

A thousand lines for you my girl
Only in break times can you write;
I want them by the end of the week
I'm sure you can see my plight.

Fireman, fireman I don't know your name
I can't get out of class;
I can only take my punishment
And watch you through the glass!

First loves cut the deepest
They never go away;
I didn't think that was true
But now I know it everyday.

I would have stayed but
Mum and dad knew best;
We moved house 100's of miles
Well you know about the rest.

They never posted our letters
They thought we'd be alright;
'Cos we were only six
Out of mind as out of sight.

That first job in the factory
The smell just overwhelmed;
Rubbers not the best you know
When it is molten and being smelt.

I heaved every day for 3 months or more
I got the hang of it though+
