Poems About Cats

 Cats
Two Cats
One up a tree
One under the tree
The cat up a tree is he
The cat under the tree is she

The tree is witch elm, just incidentally.
He takes no notice of she, she takes no notice of he.
He stares at the woolly clouds passing, she stares at the tree.
There's been a lot written about cats, by Old Possum, Yeats and Company
But not Alfred de Musset or Lord Tennyson or Poe or anybody

Wrote about one cat under, and one cat up, a tree.
God knows why this should be left for me
Except I like cats as cats be
Especially one cat up
And one cat under
A witch elm
Tree.

A CAT is a quiet companion
and constant friend
always happy to keep you company
always willing to patiently wait.

A CAT is more than a pet
with curious eyes
and gentle heart

A CAT is a silent listener
and faithful keeper
of life's joyful moments
and tender heartaches

a CAT is a purrfectly independent
member of the family
clothed in fur
and filled with love!

I'm only a cat,
And I stay in my place...
Up there on your chair,
On your bed or your face!

I'm only a cat,
and we'll get along fine...
As long as you know
I'm not yours... you're all mine!

Lickety, splickety, very pernickety
Mrs. O'Connolly hustles along on her
Rickety bicycle, cold as an icicle,
Treadalling pedalling meddling on!

And the old
tom cat
stretches slowly
by the fire.

What can the matter be, Mrs. O'Rafferty
Falling all over herself in her worry to
Get to the baker and pick out a cake for a
Jolly-good-gobble-it-down-in-a-hurry!

And the old
tom cat
pads slowly
up the stairs.

Oh what calamity, Mrs. O'Flamity
Falls out the window on top of a barrow -
it tumbles and jumbles up Mrs. O'Connolly -
Mrs.O'Rafferty slips down a narrow

Gap down by the gutter and falls in a pothole.
Oh mercy! The poor silly thing is in agony!
Mrs. O'Connolly's under a jag! Any
witnesses please to the dreadful calamity

Come to the Polis and please bring a bottle!

And the old
tom cat
rolls over, smiles, and sleeps.

Kitty's Bedtime Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray this cushy life to keep.
I pray for toys that look like mice,
and sofa cushions, soft and nice.

For grocery bags where I can hide,
Just like a tiger, crouched inside!
I pray for gourmet Kitty snacks
And someone nice to scratch my back.

For window sills all warm and bright
For shadows to explore at night.
I pray I'll always stay real cool
and keep the secret feline rule.

To never tell a human that...
the world is really run by cats.

Things to learn from a dog

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air & the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
When loved ones come into your home, always run to greet them.
When it’s in your best interest , practice obedience.

Let others know when they’ve invaded your territory,
Take naps & stretch before risding.
Run,romp and play daily.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
Be loyal.

Never pretend that you are something you are not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.
When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
No matter how often you’re scolded don’t buy into the guilt thing and pout.
Run right back and make friends.
Bond with your pack.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
